Flynn was a Templar who enrolled as a Grey Warden back when the 5th Blight happened, to follow his ancestors’ steps. Born in Talo in the Anderfels, he grew up with story of glory and sacrifice. His faith in the Maker and Andraste grew into a weapon, as a Templar. He used to take a moderate amount of lyrium but after his Joining, he felt like no amount was enough, slowly becoming another person. His son Rory Kestrel was away around that time, wandering near Kirkwall as a merchant. He wanted to visit him eventually, but his lust for lyrium grew into an obsession. He started hearing the Calling, and the chant of the red lyrium idol, in a thrum. He pretended to have died to protect this son from the much worse truth. He had became the same monster he’s spent his life killing.
