CHRONOLOGY
Prologue
Past long before 1391 DR
- Cheney was the Archdruid of the Emerald Grove. His wife and him were both Druids of the stars, but she died after spending centuries fighting for the Emerald Conclave’s ideals. Both firm believers in the Oak Father, Silvanus, he buried her in the Grove, next to an oak tree.
- Long before her death, they had a daughter called Aurora, Vesper’s mother. Out of every stars and constellations, she always preferred the company of the moon. She could almost hear her voice. Thus, she became a Selunite, believing in a god she only heard of thanks to old tales and fellow druids of the Emerald Conclave. Aurora was adventurous, wild, always needing a cause to fight for, to feel alive.
- She grew up with Halsin, who was only a couple of years younger than her. They were very close friends, running in the wilderness, experimenting a lot of “first times” together. Aurora was the first person he trusted about Thaniel, and the first to believe him when no one did. She got to meet the earth spirit, and that’s when she found her calling, becoming a druid of the land.
- As they got older, Aurora and Halsin started dating for a while, but even if they deeply loved each other, it didn’t last long. That’s when Halsin realized he couldn’t solemnly remain with one person, and she couldn’t allow him to fulfil what he wanted. They remained close friends, still learning more about themselves thanks to each others presence.
1391 DR
- Harpers (Jaheira) & druids from the Emerald Grove (Halsin & Cheney) fought Ketheric Thorm’s army of Sharran Dark Justiciars, spreading the Shadow-curse on these lands.
- A Selûnite toddler (later named Merle by Halsin, Art Cullagh’s son) was found crying alone in the debris after the fight. He was sent to the Grove to grow up out of danger, Halsin taking care of him like a father to his son.
- When he came back to the grove, Aurora was missing, on another Harper errand. And with Cheney’s death, it made him the next Archdruid if his daughter wasn’t there to claim the role. He dreaded that instant, but knew there was no other choice. With the support of his pals, he became a trusted and good leader, always listening to what the others wanted and needed, providing what he could. It helped him raising Merle, too.
1410 DR
- After a couple of years, Aurora showed up at the gates, to everyone’s surprise. They thought her lost to the Shadowfell, but she was investigating the Shadowcursed lands with Harpers, trying to undo it’s dark magic and find its cause, without results. She travelled through different planes to fetch help, but it only led her group to more troubles. Not knowing what to do now, she simply decided to go back to her home.
- She was welcomed happily, and Halsin even proposed her to take over as archdruid, but she gently refused. Her life was meant to be one of a traveller, a wondering animal on a quest for balance. He understood, of course.
- Merle didn’t have druidic magic like the others in the Emerald Grove, but his shared love for animals and nature lead him to become a Beast Master Ranger. Befriending animals to fight at his side for a common goal, respecting the wild.
- Merle and Aurora — a rather dominant druid alongside Halsin & Rath — fell in love after hunting together a couple of times. Knowing that their union could cause a discourse amongst the druid (as she was a hight elf and he was a human), they kept it secret until Aurora’s pregnancy.
1415 DR
- They had twins, Vesper & Orion, two daughters born under a full moon, on two different days. Vesper — the Evening Star — arrived soon before midnight & Orion — the Morning Star — a couple of hours later.
1425 DR
- Vesper immediately fell in love with books, reading Halsin’s collection multiple times before even reaching her ten’s birthday, living a rather solitary existence surrounded by books and animals.
- Orion was enjoying the calm of the nature and plants around him, but always remained the more social one.
- During their selunite ritual, they got separated. Scared, she did what felt most natural to her: wild shape. When she saw a shadow approaching, she attacked, and it was Orion. Thus his facial scars. She felt terrible for her actions, but Orion already forgave Vesper. He was terrified too, and glad to not face the dark wilds alone.
- He made his coming out as transmasc very young, but in Vesper’s eyes it never changed anything: she somehow already knew. The druids took the news well and more or less rapidly adjusted to his new pronouns. The local healer at the time even helped him when he came of age for his top surgery.
