A tale guided by the stars, the moon and everything in between.
“I don’t know where you end and where I begin.” he breathed.
Before they knew it, the sky hues shifted. First into warm tones, setting that memory into their mind forever. Then into colder shades, making them irremediably doubt as the lights fade out.
The stars quickly covered the entirety of the painterly landscape in front of them. They might have been laying on the ground, they knew sleep would not easily come that night. Too much was at stake.
Minutes or hours… only time itself would know, as the clouds slowly let other stars shine. The silence remained between the two significant others, communicating their turmoil solely through gentle touches, fidgeting their fingers in a comforting way.
It was a moonless night, while they desperately needed guidance from their Lady of Silver.
Not a single gaze, not a single word. Just the wind brushing the grass, the trees and nocturnal animals singing their quiet pleads through its leaves.
But suddenly, there was a sound. A sigh. As Aurora stood up, breaking the embrace of their hands. She remained quiet, her eyes never leaving the starry sky.
“We should tell them. Tell everyone.” Merle said, trading the stars in the sky for the one in his heart.
He knew it was not that easy. Aurora was a high elf, from an old family of druids. And he was just the lost human they allowed in their grove. No reaction — not visible, at least.
“I’m tired of pretending there’s nothing between us whenever they are around. They’re druids, like you. They will allow it, I’m not scared.” he added, trying to get a response from his lover.
He reached the last straw, and she finally looked back at him.
“You do not understand, do you? I am not scared for us, or whatever they’ll think about our union. I’m terrified for our child. Humans see half-elves as elves, while elves see half-elves as humans. But then… whatever in the world could they be? Will they ever find their place in this world?” Aurora answered, her usual calm and restrained voice busting into what ressemble anger.
Fear.
She was worried about the future, not lost to the present struggles. Is this what they meant, by the elven wisdom? Something taught only by the ages? He never dared to ask her age, but Merle knew centuries separated them.
He got up quickly, determined.
“That will be our job, to make sure they find a place they belong. To give them a place to call home.” he whispered in her ear, as he embraced her back.
